Viking Synth is a faithful emulation of a vintage monophonic analog synthesizer, offering a comprehensive set of features including three continuously variable wave oscillators, dual ladder filters with flexible configurations, a multi-wave LFO, and two modulation busses. Leveraging cutting-edge DSP technology, Viking Synth accurately replicates the distinctive sound of its hardware predecessor, delivering professional-grade desktop quality in a cost-effective iOS-compatible package.

As an Audio Unit Extension Instrument (AUv3), Viking Synth seamlessly integrates as a plug-in within compatible host applications. Simply select it from the available Audio Units list in supported hosts like GarageBand, Cubasis, Auria, BeatMaker, AudioBus, AUM, and Modstep.

The user interface of Viking Synth is thoughtfully designed for efficient and intuitive control. Knobs and sliders expand dynamically during adjustments to ensure visibility of current values. Organized into six accessible pages, the synth's layout streamlines navigation between logical sections. Additionally, the filter display doubles as an XY pad for precision control over cutoff and resonance parameters, with the convenience of resetting any knob or slider to default values by double-tapping.

Presets:

  • Viking Synth ships with a collection of 228 presets categorized into Bass, Bright Lead, Electro Bass, FX, Percussive Lead, Soft Lead, and Synthwave styles. Noteworthy for its prowess in generating robust bass and lush lead sounds, the synth features 50 presets each for Electro Bass and Synthwave meticulously crafted by renowned sound designer eXode. These presets are optimized for seamless integration with GarageBand, Cubasis, and AUM.

Oscillators:

  • Central to Viking's sonic character are its three adjustable wave oscillators. The continuously variable waveform knob imparts a distinctiveness unattainable through fixed waveforms typical in most synthesizers. Complementing these oscillators is a noise oscillator offering three noise types, including one modeled after a hardware counterpart.

Modulation:

  • Viking Synth boasts two versatile modulation busses and an LFO, providing expansive modulation possibilities with direct access to advanced parameters otherwise buried deep in hardware menus.

Filters:

  • The synth features meticulously modeled classic transistor ladder filters in two DSP varieties: one for reduced CPU load and another offering soft clipping alongside three additional overdriven modes. Users can adjust the number of poles for a diverse array of filter tones.

Comparative Advantages:
- Viking’s oscillators operate on free-running principles rather than employing sampled, wavetable-based, or zero-point-generated methods
- Advanced anti-aliasing techniques ensure clean oscillator output
- User-controllable tuning drift introduces controlled oscillator instability
- The nonlinear filter employs circuit modeling to deliver soft clipping effects
